BB vs NM

Vegas has SDSU listed as an 8 pt favorite today across the board.

Everything I've heard says Pope has not been practicing at all.

Elijah Brown is the most hated player in MWC in my eyes. Pathetic sensational FLOPPER. Gets his points from "VOLUME SHOOTING." Hate that dude.

In Conf Opener vs. Fresno, Brown played 30 mins, shot 2 of 10 from floor but FLOPPED his way to FOURTEEN FT's, more than entire Fresno team combined. How the F is that guy All-MWC?? I know, just another example of MWC being an absolute joke of a league.

Bottom line, MW is down once again. Gotta have the W vs NM tomorrow. Looking forward to being loud and proud at the Blackout at Viejas tomorrow afternoon.

2017 Aztec Football

We lose a core group of players that led us to back 2 back MWC Championship and resounding bowl wins. DJ, Munson, Kazee, Siragusa, Barrett, Smith, Kelly and the rest of the senior class and there were some visible leaders on this team.

We got punched in the mouth in the 1Q against Houston, but instead of running back to San Diego, this team punched back and delivered a solid performance on both sides of the ball, but especially on defense.

It has been a great run in 2015-2016 so do we have enough in the stables to keep this run going? We still have some core players coming back, but the OL will be young and unproven and we need players to step up for the guys we are losing. I think we can win the West Division and get back to the MWC title game in 2017.

Defense

DL - Philipps, Turner, Hall. No proven depth behind these three so can the JC recruits (Gardner, Chibu) or Rocheilin, Cheatum provide quality depth? We need to start rebuilding the DL as we have no proven players beyond net year.

LB - Dunn, Lakalaka, Ricks, Henderson. A solid core of players especially with how Henderson stepped up toward the end of the season and if Ricks can return to his 2015 form. We have some youth, but which ones are going to step up – Tezino, Himphill, Cassidy, Mathis, Murphy?

Secondary - Smith, Lomax, Kelly, Baldwin. Smith has short term memory as he was constantly picked on by opposing QBs, but his interception was very cerebral play in the LV Bowl and really turned the game. Thompson and Woods look like they can be key players for years to come, Montgomery saw some key playing time and there are numbers at all the positions, but all are young. Guidry would be a nice recruiting coup and looks like he can be similar to McFadden and be used for certain offensive plays given his speed.

Offense
Key playmakers – Penny (should finish his SDSU career in the top 5 in rushing yards), Washington, Holder, Truxton, Wells, Houston, Warning.

QB – Chapman. Good game manager, but will need to do more and without proven depth behind Holder/Truxton/Wells/Houston and without DJ. A quality 5th year transfer would be great to create some competition. Horton needs to establish a vertical passing game. DJ was such a gamer, he made plays out of nothing and hid some of our shortcomings.

OL – We have the numbers and maybe the talent (haven’t seen them play yet) but they are young. I assume we are going to go through a period of growing pains with 4 new starters. A JC transfer (who can contribute immediately), would be a good addition to this recruiting class.

Special Teams

ST – Baron – he was aces this year and we look set for 2017 & 2018, but who will be the punter next year?

New conference

Time to start a new conference is here

First off there must be an agreement from anyone that joins the conference to be obligated for 30 years no withdrawal

The other conferences Will not be able to take our teams after we are building the product. The end result will be no raiding our teams

We would be looking for large population areas for TV market shares and to get a big TV contract

If the teams have decent basketball program so much the better

I will propose the following teams

San Diego State
University of Nevada Las Vegas
Fresno State
San Jose State
Boise State
University of Nevada Reno
University of New Mexico
Colorado state university
University of Texas El Paso
University of Texas San Antonio
University of Houston
Tulsa
Air Force Academy

From these the final three teams

Memphis
University of Cincinnati
United States Naval Academy
West Point

All of these teams Or from large population centers which represent television sets which represent advertisement dollars

If you build the product and stop the teams from being able to leave for a Set 30 year time. The conference may become so lucrative that no one will want to leave it for the big 12 and or the ACC

Just an opinion and I think it's better than waiting around trying to get a seat at the other table

Cal Athletics in Financial Trouble

Cal is currently losing $20 million per year. After coming close to dropping baseball and few other sports in 2010, most think its inevitable that handful of sports will be dropped in 2017. Surprising when you consider the huge haul of TV, bowl games, NCAA basketball, etc. revenue that each PAC -12 program receives.

Hey Ruben, U-T article 12-24...

Kirk Kenny does a review of next year's aztecs. In the article he assesses those
who may step up on the OL next. One glaring name missing was Dixon.
Just an oversight or is there a possible homesickness or grades issue?

While I'm at it, thank you for your efforts this year. You've done a tremendous
job keeping us informed.

Hope you and your family have the best of Christmases.
Rick

SD Madison QB

Good article on this kid in today's UT.

His coach says he can make all throws.

He has a high TD to INT ration

Rocky said we want another QB.

Csuck had offered him among others.

He's mobile and has a strong arm.

Obvious Question, do we have interest in this kid and if not why not?

Hey Ruben...

a little speculation while we enjoy the
season's results. How long do you think Rocky will be around?
And, as we, go into the silly season, which of our coaches might be approached
by other schools? Who might we have to replace?
My thinking was Hauck was Heir apparent but if Rocky intends to be here for three
more years, I'd think we lose Hauck. Thoughts?
