We'll it happened for the second time this year... The all powerful Kevin Acee is calling for a SD coach to get the axe. First it was his calling a end to the Long era at SDSU after week 3 or 4 and now he has officially called for McCoy to leave town after what I think is the Chargers 6th loss in a row. I'm certainly not against a beat writer being tough on a coach but I hope he'll have the same set of balls to admit when he's wrong as he looks to be with Rocky and the Aztecs and their West Division Championship vying for MWC title and 10 wins?? I heard Rocky say "it's almost impossible to get back once the top writer in town call's for you to get fired". Glad our Aztecs and Rocky fought back and showed some back bone! I agree with some others that although Rocky may not get us to this illusive "next level" he certainly has proven to be a tough nosed, disciplined coach which is just what this program needed and still does.

This kid had it rough up until his senior season. SDSU recognized his ability and now his life is back in the right direction. (Also, a cool little tidbit on Malik Smith in here).

One interesting thing I noticed on SDSU's press release announcing the SDSU-AFA championship game on Dec. 5 is that it said the host is expected to be announced on Nov. 29, next Sunday.

But Anderson Sports ratings typically doesn't come out until Mondays in the afternoon. Will the MW select a host without one of the four ranking systems used in the composite?

(Anderson had Air Force one spot ahead in its rankings heading into this weekend (67 vs. 68) and I expect the gap to increase to 57 vs. 65 or something to that extent after this weekend. Not using it in the final composite would help SDSU's chances if both SDSU and AFA win this weekend)

I checked the MW release and they were less specific, so we will likely have to wait for the Anderson ratings on Monday before knowing who the actual host will be:

"The 2015 Sports Authority Mountain West Football Championship will be played at the home stadium of the highest-ranked divisional champion, which will be determined at the conclusion of the regular season."

No six-month rehab process. He'll be back for spring ball. May even play in bowl game depending on date.

Last night was more like we expected our team to play. We need to continue to get that effort and efficiency.

There is none.

Rocky said he called up the league office and tried to appeal and half way through he was told nothing would change because there is no appeal process. He actually told McGee that he was going to try and appeal before finding out.

"I said OK see you later," Long said.

Long also said while McGee didn't show it leaving the field, he was probably "mad as hell" in his mind.

One of the key changes to the offense for rest of the year must be Chol starting and playing more minutes over Spencer. Opponents have figured out how inept Spencer is offensively and pressure the premiter more when Spencer is in the game. Chol has five times the moves offensively than Spencer. Once again last night Spencer screwed up when the ball was dished to him within few feet of the basket five times. He got blocked, instead of just catching and going straight up freakin started dribbling and lost it, or just had the ball go off of his hands, etc.

Chol at least receives the ball well and has a wide range of moves you'd have to defend and he finishes. Chol also runs the floor with more energy and moves on offense more than Spencer. Don't need Chol to score 15 ppg but at least resemble some sort of a threat and putting pressure on the opposing 5.

Appreciate defense that Spencer brings but he cannot be a starter any longer as a one dimensional player.

The MW informed Rocky Long that McGee's targeting penalty will be upheld and he will miss the first half of next week's game.

Long said he watched the play 16 times and went frame by frame and doesn't agree with the call.

Starting lineup will look different today. No Spencer, Pope or Shepard.

Hemsley, Kell, Allen, Cheatham and Chol get the nod.

AFA has a strength of schedule ranked 114 according to Colley. SDSU's SOS is at 130.

Apart from being "just another practice", here are the things that stood out today ...

The coaches remain VERY vocal. They are NOT satisfied with the defensive performance (nor effort) and they are demanding execution in practice. The criticism is being delivered in a direct manner, and no one is getting away with slack effort.

Rebounding technique is another point of emphasis, both in designed drills and throughout practice.

Max Hoetzel participated in the non-contact drills, but was on the sidelines during game situations. All of our slightly injured players were full participants.

The percentage of shots taken beyond the arc is up significantly nationwide. I'm not sure if that's the culmination of a trend, a response to the new rules and tight officiating, or what ... but our team spends a fair amount of time on 3-point shooting drills. Given Winston's performance in prior seasons, he continues to impress with his % of makes.

You gotta love Z's motor.

Facing our first team defense, D'Erryl gets to the rim and finishes with either hand. Makes me wonder what another penetrating PG with a running back's body will do to us.

It is believed Marcus Stamps tore his MCL and will miss six months. This isn't confirmed but what the medical staff believed last night following the game.

Alex Barrett is fine. Has knee soreness and a bruise but he's fine. Played six plays with pain in his knee. He was pulled for precautionary reasons.

Pearce Slater has a bum ankle but the told the staff today he feels much better. Slater was x-rayed at the game and the medical team believe he will be fine. Left at halftime because of precautionary reasons.

Jake Fely's broken thumb was sore during the game but that's it. He's good.

Winston Shepard, Trey Kell, Dakarai Allen are al warming up and look fine.

Wonder if there will be a different lineup tonight.

UNM currently leads Colorado State 21-20 in the 3rd quarter. If UNM wins out, SDSU will likely host Lobos at the Q. If UNM loses, Air Force clinches a spot in the title game and will more than likely host in Colorado Springs.

After a second look, I notice Slater was limping during Pumphrey's second TD. Salcedo was subbed in for him during the following drive. It may have been because of the lopsided score or Slater may have possibly been pulled due to a real injury.

Will ask Rocky about it tomorrow, along with a bunch of other questions I have ready for him.

Kirk Kenney reported that the MW uses four computer rankings to decide who host the title game: Anderson & Hester, Billingsley, Colley and Wolfe Matrix. Last week, SDSU (60.8) had a 2.5 lead over Utah State (63.3) in the overall rankings.

Conclusion: All top three teams moved up, but SDSU's lead is now just 2.5 spots. If the MW Championship game were today, SDSU would still be hosting it. But the Aggies have BYU left on its schedule, a consensus top 35 team by all three sites. If USU beats BYU in the final week, SDSU will probably get jumped in the ratings (which is pretty dumb since it's not a conference game). The Aztecs only fighting chance at that point would be if they absolutely crush Wyoming, UNLV and Nevada moving forward,.

Just had a nasty injury at bottom of the pile on his first carry. Hate to see this happen again. Was able to get off the field with some help. His screams of pain could be heard loud and clear.
