On Jack Bailey.

Had a nice chat with Jack Bailey. Gave some nice tidbits and insights. Everything's good and he's all SDSU.

As for his thoughts on Coach Cooper - that's basically what I expected to hear.

Worth noting that he said Coach Cooper told all the recruits that he wants to be a part of their lives - not just on the football field - going as far as saying he wants to be at their weddings. He also sent Bailey a long text message earlier today to let him know how happy he was to meet him etc.

That's the type of recruiter SDSU is getting with Coach Coop.

Stop f@#king arguing w/ each other

This isn't aztecmesa, stop clogging up these good recruiting threads w/ bitching at each other. I'm tired of trying to read threads about recruits and recruiting info to see you all acting like a bunch of 15 year old girls. I'm at the point where I just scan to see Ruben's ASR pic to see there is something worth reading cuz anything coming out from a handful of you guys is just crap. At least start your own thread to cry to each other.

DL

Just want to point out that DL Kevin Scott and Gary Baker, two of the hottest names leading up to signing day, were recruits SDSU got a head start on before anyone else. You can't do anything about kids like these blowing up down the stretch, though.

Baker and Scott were both supposed to visit this weekend but that all fell through. Baker instead visited with Fresno St. after I heard he wasn't too big a fan of the Aztecs depth chart and playing time concerns when Osia Lewis brought it up during his in home visit last week. Danny Gonzales probably should have done the in home instead, but if a recruit is concerned about playing time this early on, it would be pointless either way. I think Coach G will still try to get in for a home visit, but I think Baker may end up at UCLA or Oregon regardless. We'll see.

Scott was seriously considering the Aztecs until Miami got in the mix, followed by UCLA and USC. There was simply not enough space on his schedule to visit SDSU. I think he'll end up at USC.

Fball recruiting tidbits

-Salesian DL Kevin Scott will for sure visit San Diego State on Jan. 23. There are five more schools in the mix to have him in for officials on Jan. 16 and the last weekend before signing day.

New Mexico, UNLV and UTEP all want to get him in on Jan. 16. Kansas State and Fresno St. are trying to get him on Jan. 30. Whoever shows the most interest out of those programs will get him for a visit. I think SDSU is his leader, but there are some test score concerns. There may be a Rashaad Penny type situation where he'll need to improve his scores/grades before enrolling at San Diego State if it ends up being his pick.

-Oceanside OL Christian Cronk is still a soft commit to Hawai'i, but it's unlikely he'll end up there. San Diego State is on the bubble of whether or not he's worth taking, but they may be his leader as of now too. It's a fluid situation. It's worth noting that Cronk plans to officially visit Utah St. for now. Still unsure about others.

-One of the best players I've seen on the 7-on-7 high school circuit, former four star QB Troy Williams, is transferring from Washington. He'd easily be a guy SDSU would take if he didn't have to sit out a year, so he's spending the 2015 season at a Junior College to put together some more film and enroll at a Div. I school next winter. I'm sure the staff will try to get in touch with him now either way though.

-Just in case people are wondering what will happen if Jeff Horton doesn't get the OC position and decides to coach elsewhere, SDSU's class should remain in top shape no matter what. Juwan Washington, one of the most exciting prospects in this class, is all SDSU, for example.

On Nick Gerhard

The SDSU commit said he had official offers from New Mexico, Tulsa, UTSA, North Texas and Houston, along with SDSU. He officially visitedUNM, his runner up, the weekend prior to SDSU.

Will have a story up on him but worth noting that, by the sound of it, his parents are really against him going to San Diego State. They were with him during the visit and didn't like it. They want him to be close to home, but he's all locked in on SDSU and said he's ready to explore the world independently.

QBs

Kentucky transfer Maxwell Smith and Diablo Valley Junior College QB Adam Wood are both on campus and set for spring ball coming up soon. Smith has been placed on scholarship. Wood is coming in as a walk-on.

Smith threw for 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns vs. nine interceptions during his career at Kentucky. He will technically be a senior at SDSU but there's a chance he can be granted another year via medical waiver request. He's a very big, strong QB with a good arm.

Wood comes from a program that brought Quinn Kaehler and Na'Im McGee to SDSU. I've heard Wood is about the same size as Kaehler and just as smart, along with average to above average arm strength.

SDSU also seemed very close to adding Utah 3rd stringer Adam Schulz, a former Jeff Horton recruit when he was at Nevada, but that fell through.

Nonetheless, SDSU will have three mature QBs in Smith, Wood and Jake Rodrigues to go along with the young guns, Nick Bawden and Christian Chapman. That's a nice group to work with for Coach Horton in his first year. They'll all have to start from the same position and they'll all be adapting to Horton's criteria, playbook and terminology. The competition should be a very close one.

next week's visits

Someone said Baker was in Fresburg. Hope he will be here next week. Parker Baldwin - a athlete 6'2 210 from Arkansas will be her per his Dad on Aztec Mesa. Lakalaka,if he does not throw us over foir Cal. I bet we have some sneaky good guys coming in,one commit this week maybe another?

basketball presser

-Fisher clearly not happy about the call on O'Brien down the stretch. "It's hard to explain something that was a bad call."

-Fisher said the staff is "cautiously optimistic" about Polee getting back into some physical activity pretty soon but nothing has been done yet. He's still seeing multiple doctors.

-Fisher said Cezar Guerror, Paul Watson and Marvelle Harris can create their own shot as good as anybody in the country.

On Jamarcus Bradley

Hearing SDSU will not have him in for a visit this weekend, as previously scheduled. He was an under wraps recruit all season but landed an offer from Cal in December and seems to be headed there. Tony White was supposed to meet with him last week for an in home but he didn't and I think that's the right call considering he seems Cal-bound and he can spend his time efforting on recruits more in his area. There were also concerns about his personality and I've heard they resemble to former east coast SDSU recruit Joe Morrow, who left the program very early on in his career two seasons ago. If he doesn't end up at Cal it will be a small school close in his area.

OL commit

SDSU received a commitment from Calabasas (Calif.) William Tuihalamaka today following his official visit. "Hala" is a 6-5, 350-pounder who was a pretty good pulling guard in high school but will need to work on his hips and body if he wants to do that at the next level. Another project for sure, a big fellah' joining a tall fellah' in Texas OL recruit Jordan Murray, but he's still a very good player. Not exceptionally explosive but big and strong and mean.

Here's a picture of him side-by-side with USC freshman guard Damien Mama (right) last year.

Jordan Smith

Was informed tonight that Jordan Smith's football career at SDSU is over (back problems), and he is on pace to graduate at the end of the spring semester. He will remain on scholarship, but it will not count against SDSU's 85 scholly allotment.

This also means that SDSU will not have a center with playing experience at the position this upcoming season.

visit list

Avidly reading that there will be 20+ visitors in the next two weeks but who are they? Only five listed on the visitor list and one who hasn't already commited.. Who are they and why isn't the list kept up to date as the recruits indicate they will be visiting.

Mesa discussion is that the KY QB has no mention of being in SD with classes starting next week. Has this fallen through?
