2015 Seniors / 2016 Peek

What an awesome run in football. Props to the seniors for pulling this team together where I have not witness this kind of consistent play for over 25 years (the last run that I can compare it to was the 1991 season). The other person to give props to is Horton, his playing calling grew as the season went on and the Chapman 4Q bootleg was brilliant.

Although we are loaded in some positions for next year (Munson, Kazee, DJ, D-secondary) we are losing some key seniors that have played major roles, and some played key roles for 3+ years. Barring injuries, grades, off field issues, we have some guys that got PT in 2015 and some that will be newbies next year. Any insight on how some of these players looked in practice/games? ……. I know “let’s wait until spring”, but I don’t want this run to end.

Fely (Tezino / Lakalaka)
Greene (Fr. / JC ?)
Slater (Pope)
Hageman (Baron)
Price (Penny / Washington)
Sanchez (Kelly/Rochelin)
Heyward (Noble)
Gordon (Lessard?)
JJ (Vaughn)
Overbaugh (JC recruit)
Smith (Chapman)
Hazley (outside of Holder, Hazley turned into a decent WR this year. With the depth a safety, would they convert K. Kelly as he shown some decent speed)

SDSU vs. USD

Very ugly game so far. USD leads 8-4 at the 11:43 mark

Aztecs have missed three 3-point attempts against USD zone and have now switched to a zone defense of their own.

SDSU currently 2-11 from the field.

There is only one entrance area for the game and it was VERY backed up as the game was starting. Fans still coming in.

Rocky on bowl game

He said the team understand "it's our own fault" for playing poorly during the early season and how that held the program back from a bigger bowl and power five opponent.

That said, Long believes "every bowl game is the same unless your in the playoff."

Despite this, Long said he's going to spend more bowl practices preparing for the actual bowl and NOT do training camp like practices as he has done the past few years.

Why? Because when the Aztecs were 1-3, "we made a lot of changes on how we did things." Rocky plans to keep it that way.

Some of the changes included added music to practices, shorter practices and more intense practices. The number of reps also decreased and SDSU also gave players more time off during bye week, not doing as much training camp-style practices either.

Rocky also described Cincinnati as an explosive team who had similar issues with turnovers early on during the season.

USD tix

I have four face value ($75) tickets available. They are in the field sideline stands, but I don't know what Grand 1, row 18, seats 13, 14, 15, 16 means. Has anyone been to one of the high school games and is able to clarify that? Gina usually takes pretty good care of me, so they should be pretty good seats. If interested, send me a PM. Hang in there, Matt

MWC Midway Through The MBB OOC Schedule

Aztecs were predicted to clinch this conference but already has a bad loss on the resume. Who knows maybe Arkansas-Little Rock wins their conference undefeated and ranked? <<<LOL Boise State has been disappointing thus far, and Coach Rice (the Las Vegas one) has turned over a new leaf and is actually winning against really good teams. UNLV has only one loss, it came in a game (vs UCLA) that was decided only by a couple of points, and even though UCLA did lose to powerhouse Monmouth, they did end up pounding #1 Kentucky good.

I'm going to say that UNLV at this point in the season (according to my world famous power rankings) is the clear leader of the conference so far. SDSU has a strong grip on #2 with New Mexico, Fresno State, Boise State and CSU all hanging on our ankles vying for that cherished #3 spot in my world renowned 5 star power rankings ;)

All kidding aside, only SDSU and UNLV have very tough OOC schedules this year. Boise State has lost all its marquee match-ups and only has Oregon left on the schedule to get a really good resume win (don't know if Oregon will still be ranked by the time these two play but still would be a good win). CSU lost both games against the only two decent teams its played against so far, they can make a strong push up the charts if they can win out their OOC schedule and beat both Colorado and K-State.

My ultra early predictions for the conference regular season championship has the Runnin' Rebels winning it. I would like to think that SDSU could squeak out a win for the conference tournament championship, but if Dave Rice doesn't lay an egg and has his team playing up to potential at that point, they can actually benefit (for once) from their home court advantage in that tournament.

What say you? Any dark horses out there that could surprise and topple UNLV and SDSU from the top spots? Which team starts to gel at the right time and upsets everyone in the conference tournament a la Wyoming last season?

Question for Ruben - Recruit Interest

Ruben I'm interested in hearing your take on whether you have seen a marked uptick in recruit interest given our season. Outside of the coaches, you probably speak to more SDSU recruits than anyone. So relative to this time last year how are we doing in the eyes of recruits and can you quantify?

I know Rocky said we had over 100 recruits at the WYO game which was the most we have had since he has been here.

Question for anyone

During the game with Nevada, on the play where Whittaker caught the ball and the receiver took it away, the replay I watched the receiver stepped out of bounds and came back in to make the steal. How come he did not become ineligible when he came back in bounds. There was no ruling on this.
