This is speculative so maybe I shouldn't post this since it's just based on what I saw.

I spotted Fred Melifonwu leaving the football offices earlier today. Either he was just getting paperwork done so he can leave the school at the end of the semester (when his athletic scholarship is up) or he is considering making a return. We'll see. I'll ask Rocky about it next time he's available.

Question Ruben

Is Rivals going to updated any of the SDSU commits rankings? I thing Bell and Dwayne Johnson should be at least three stars. Lucas Johnson improved a lot this year and should get a bump in the rankings.

Also, do you see another under the radar Ryan Pope JC early signing?

JuCo

I know the quarterback position is a question mark that everyone has on their minds heading into next season and Maxwell Smith's knee injury made things even more unclear than they already were.

I don't know how things will play out. Maybe the staff will be fine with Chapman if he plays better than expected this postseason. Maybe the Agnew hype makes them feel even more comfortable with sticking with who they got, not to mention Lucas Johnson next year.

But their are options out there that they may try to bring in for insurance. It's worth noting that at this point of the season SDSU doesn't really officially offer QBs but they will probably bring in a few for official visits and if they like their attitude, size etc. face to face, they may decide to add one to the roster. This was the case for Brad Odeman and Jake Rodrigues over the past few off seasons and I expect something like that to happen this season. I think the names to be aware of are already out there for the most part but here's who I think you should really keep an eye on.

Kentucky transfer Patrick Towles will be the hot name this offseason but I'm not sure if that happens.

UK clips

Armani Rogers decommitted from Cal and the thought is UCLA will be the choice but the Bruins have Rosen for two more seasons and another top 2017 QB they are pursuing. Rogers is also in Tony White's area and he can scoop him up if the staff decides to pursue him.

Clips

The other HS QB to be aware of is Camarillo's Jake Constatine.

Clips

Johnny Stanton was a kid SDSU offered early in his career then blew up with a strong junior and senior shower before a season ending injury. He didn't pan out at Nebraska and he's currently at Saddleback College, a program SDSU regularly pursues.

College of the Desert QB Stephen Johnson II is having a big juco season and can be another option. He went to Grambling St. but an ankle injury derailed his career.

Another possibility (and not as much of a dual threat guy) is Richard Lagow from Cisco CC in Texas. He committed to UConn out of college but is now back in Texas and looking to transfer.

PetCo Park football stadium?

Padres President/CEOS said today, when asked about PetCo's viability as a multipurpose stadium following the USD-SDSU basketball game, said: "PetCo could be modified pretty easily to accommodate football."

Assuming the Chargers leave and we are unable to play at Qualcomm, how about PetCo as a home stadium and Poinsettia Bowl host?

Seats 40,000 so it would fill up better than the Q. Holiday Bowl wouldn't be happy cause they average 50,000+

Chapman

Christian Chapman completed nine passes. Seven of them were drive extenders.

Chapman's completions:

3rd and 6 (first down)
2nd and 12 (touchdown called back for illegal chop block)
3rd and 6 (first down)
2nd and 11 (first down)
2 and 6
2nd and 12 (first down)
2nd and 11 (first down)
3rd and 8 (first down)
2nd and 8 (first down)
3rd and 27

This wasn't a gimme. He won the game the hard way.

Maxwell Smith

Rocky Long said he hopes Maxwell Smith "gets ready but there’s not a real good chance that he’ll be able to play."

Smith still has a lot swelling and won't practice until that heals. Chapman will practice like he's going to start but in his heart he probably wants Maxwell to play, Long said.

Long also said if doctors clear Smith, he'll let him hand the ball off on first play but if Smith comes back saying he can't do it it's not happening. Nothing symbolic will happen if Smith isn't cleared to get on the field, either.
