Malik Pope declares for draft

But it's just to test the NBA waters and will not hire an agent (as many prospects are doing this year because it's a win-win situation). The thing is, Malik's particular skill set is one that will look very impressive to scouts in camp and workout settings.

The release:

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State rising junior forward Malik Pope has submitted his name to the NBA making him eligible for this year’s NBA Draft, SDSU head coach Steve Fisher announced today.

“Malik Pope, with our consultation and approval, has submitted his name to the NBA for the upcoming draft, but will not hire an agent, allowing himself the opportunity to return to San Diego State,” Fisher said. “With the rule change, it is a great opportunity for Malik to get workouts and evaluations from NBA personnel. Together, we will monitor his progress.”

A native of Sacramento, Pope this season helped the Aztecs to their third straight Mountain West regular-season title, an appearance in the NIT semifinals and a 28-10 overall record (16-2 MW). The forward played in all 38 games during his sophomore season, making 16 starts, and averaged 7.3 points and 5.0 rebounds. The 6-10, 210-pound forward scored in double figures 12 times, with SDSU going 11-1 in those games, and four double-doubles.

Pope was particularly effective in the final 13 games of the season, posting averages of 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists. He also shot 47.5 percent from the field, including 50.0 percent from three-point distance, during that span. In his final nine outings, however, he upped his scoring and rebounding to 12.3 and 7.3, respectively, and added three double-doubles, including a 19-point, 11-rebound effort in the MW championship game, which helped him earn all-Mountain West tournament accolades.

For his career, Pope has played in 69 games to go with 16 starts and averaged 6.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in 18.4 minutes. In his freshman season (2014-15), he was eased into action at the beginning of the campaign as he was recovering from a pair of leg injuries that cost him part of his junior season and his entire senior year at Laguna Creek High School. Pope did not see regular action in the SDSU rotation until the third week of January 2015 and ultimately helped the Aztecs to the third round of the 2015 NCAA tournament.

Pope has until May 25 or 10 days after the conclusion of the NBA Draft Combine to make a decision on whether to remain in the draft or withdraw his name from draft list. This year’s Combine is scheduled for May 11-15 in Chicago, Illinois. The NBA Draft is set for June 23, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

2016 NFL Draft

No Aztecs drafted in first three rounds as fully expected. Very likely that today Darrell Greene and Pearce Slater could be picked up. Greene has been consistently rated higher than Slater so I'd be surprised to see him go undrafted. At 6'7 and 333 lbs Slater will be a great project as a late round pick or UDFA.

No MW player was selected in 1st round but the following went yesterday:

Correa, Kamalei DE 6'3" 243 Boise St. Pick 11, Round 2 (42) Ravens

Fackrell, Kyler OLB 6'5" 245 Utah St. Pick 25, Round 3 (88) Packers

Odhiambo, Rees OG 6'4" 314 Boise St. Pick 35, Round 3 (97) Seahawks

Thompson, Darian S 6'2" 208 Boise St. Pick 8, Round 3 (71) Giants

Vigil, Nick ILB 6'2" 239 Utah St. Pick 24, Round 3 (87) Bengals

Where's the content?

There is hardly any content at all on the site. If not for this message board, there'd be practically no information coming from here.

I know it's the offseason yet everyone else's sites have continuous content. And this isn't a recent thing. It's been weeks, if not months, of hardly any content.

What's going on?

Anyone know what's going on with JC Post, Leonard Allen?

UNLV, Boise and Nevada have been mentioned as possible future destinations for several transfers. SDSU only with the so-so player from Tennessee. Leonard Allen may be the best potential immediately eligible 5 out there for the Aztecs, his dad played for SDSU and Allen Jr. is playing for a local JC. Anyone know what's going on with his recruitment or did I miss something on him committing elsewhere?

UNLV Basketball

Three things:

* Their interim coach with ZERO college coaching background is headed to be head coach at Southern Utah. How this guy sells himself is just impressive.

http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports...dd-simon-named-southern-utah-basketball-coach

* University of Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin has arrived in Las Vegas to discuss the vacant UNLV (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) basketball job with school officials, according to the Las Vegas Sun. He currently makes $2.2 mil/yr and will be offered $3 mil/yr by UNLV.

Coach Fisher currently makes a base salary of just under $1 mil/yr.

* Sophmore Dwayne Morgan has requested his release and will transfer.

Spring Evaluation period basketball

Guys on there team that could interest SDSU at some level: Ira Lee (pipe dream in all likelihood, Arizona may back off some but then Cal would lead), Spencer Freedman (2018) will be a highly recruited PG.

Jamarl Baker (current Cal commit), Miles Brookins (2017 big), Kezie Okpala (2017 high major wing). Miles Norris is on 16U team.

Duke PG from Chatsworth CA to transfer

PG Derryck Thornton is transferring from Duke wanting to play closer to home. Can't have enough really good guards. And the Aztecs don't have enough true ball handlers. As shown when Hemsley got hurt, Trey just got worn down. The team needs more than 2 playable guards.

Think the Aztecs need to talk to this kid. He was a 5 star recruit and is a real point guard.

Aztecs MBB in hunt for Tennessee transfer Ray Kasongo

Jon Rothstein

✔‎@JonRothstein

Tennessee transfer Ray Kasongo is considering San Diego State, ASU, Washington State, Seton Hall, and UNLV, source told @CBSSports.

A 6-foot-8, 245-pound native of Toronto, Canada, Kasongo will have two seasons to complete his final two seasons of eligibility. Stats not all that impressive.
