WR

I know a few of you guys have mentioned the idea of SDSU bringing in a WR transfer or two for immediate help at the position of need.

A couple months back it was mentioned that former SDSU safety Fred Trevillion (who was dismissed after his freshman year) was potentially on track to make a return to the team by meeting Rocky's academic requirements. Note: This does not mean Fred was dismissed because of academics, just that his "punishment" was the dismissal and the possibility to return was dependant on his coursework back home.

I recently learned that the plan was for Trevillion to play wide receiver if he made it back this summer. Today I heard and confirmed that Trevillion still needs coursework to complete and will instead attend southwest community college out east for at least another year. His future with SDSU remains uncertain.

Another former player, linebacker Fred Melifonwu (who quit the team mid-season out of the blue), was also mentioned at the time with Trevillion. I don't have much of an update other than it's still a possibility that he returns this summer. No news is good news, and the good news is Melifonwu apparently hasn't had any hiccups or anything to keep the possibility from happening as of today.

The WR talent is obviously still a big question mark though (not to mention Lloyd Mills' decision to transfer). I'm also still not even sure freshman receiver Jabril Clewis (who missed spring camp) got his grades in order this semester. I wouldn'be surprised if a potential return to the team is dependant on him passing a couple summer courses. If he's in uniform next fall camp that will mean he got back into good academic standing. If he doesn't show up, I doubt Rocky will give him another semester on scholarship and that may be the last we see of him.

Now, here's something to be hopeful about. There is still a possibility former SDSU signee Wayne Jackson (Fontana, CA 3-star) can make it in. I've always felt Wayne has a good head on his shoulders so that is something to be optimistic about. But know that it is still early. We should know more later this summer.

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State has added to its program Yasmin Ahooja, who recently signed her National Letter of Intent with the Aztecs, women’s soccer head coach Mike Friesenannounced today. The midfielder joins the four-time defending Mountain West regular-season champions out of nearby Carlsbad High School.

Ahooja will head south to Montezuma Mesa after a successful career at Carlsbad where she helped the Lancers to three Avocado West League titles (2013, 2014, 2015) and four San Diego CIF Division I playoff appearances, including a quarterfinal berth in 2016, a semifinal effort in 2014, and title game performances in 2013 and 2015. A 2016 team captain, Ahooja is three-time scholar-athlete and was named to the 2015-16 San Diego Union-Tribune all-academic team.

On the club circuit, Ahooja plays for the successful San Diego Surf, which she and fellow incoming freshman Ariana Robles helped lead to a ECNL national championship in 2014. The midfielder has also played on Cal South and Region IV teams since 2013.

Ahooja, who has also earned varsity letters in track and field, joins a San Diego State program that has won an average of 16 games over the last four years and captured seven Mountain West titles during that span (four regular season, three tournament). SDSU has also advanced to three NCAA tournaments in the last four seasons, including 2012’s run to the Sweet 16.

Transfer C Valentine Izundu

The 6-foot-10, 235-pound center from WSU Valentine Izundu has announced that he is transferring and will be eligible immediately at a new school. No word on possible destinations. He is a defensive specialist in Spencer's mold. News of his transfer just broke this week. Very intriguing possibility of how he'd fit with 2016-2017 Aztecs Basketball:

Montaque Gill-Caesar

In all the excitment in the media, social media and on this board over Devin Watson's signing, I noticed that Montaque Gill-Caesar was effectively left out. SDUT doesn't even mention him when forecasting Guards rotatation in two years when Watson is eligible. I expect this guy to have a major impact next season as a 6'6 experienced HIGHLY rated Guard who can SCORE.

Why I HATE ESPN And Their Inherent East Coast Bias (Ignorance).

Got a good laugh out of this article written by Ryan McGee: Theoretical Pac-16

This East Coast (North Carolina) hack has UNLV, Hawaii, Boise State and either Colorado State or Air Force joining the Pac-16. SDSU gets left out from the southern division of this theoretical Pac-12 super-expansion. The only endearing quality of SDSU being its TV market and NOT its competitive sports program  Screw you ESPN :D

Two possible wide receiver transfers

There are two possible wide receiver transfers that San Diego State is in the mix for their both from Utah Delshawn McClellon with a graduate transfer and eligible immediately, a small guy about 5 foot nine but very fast runs under 4.4. The other one Monte Seabrook is about 6 foot 180 pounds as excellent speed played basketball as well as run track.
Maybe lucky Radley will come in the play here with could use a couple wide receivers I

Graduation gift for Ruben

So before I get a text msg from him with a groan, I'll be collecting from any of you that would like to participate. Same as the last time, you can send it to my paypal account and I'll write up a card and give him the money in early June. Sending it out early so that you all have time. Some just didn't have enough warning at Xmas.

Obviously this is voluntary and as the last time, you can make it anonymous or have your screen name or real name attached to it. Just let me know in the payment to paypal how you want your name spelled out.

Thanks

Jeff
