FYI

Rivals.com will be down tonight from 11 pm to 3 am, in case any of you happen to log on during those times and can't gain access. All I can say for now is that the planned outage is to improve many functions of this site - like making sure the network doesn't go down during national signing day like it did last year - along with adding new features to the Rivals site structure that many of you will enjoy seeing. I know I am.

SDSU Football and South Alabama to Start Series in September

Hinted at an announcement happening earlier this week and SDSU sent out a press release while I was out and about with a dead cell phone. I didn't know USA was the choice but I knew it would be a school basically right around Northern Arizona's level.

As for the other out of conference game, that's still far from being determined. I don't think the school is sure whether or not they'll wait for a P5-school and a big pay check or just get it over with by adding another lower level school and easy win to at least guarantee a minimum of 2-2 heading into conference play - which should be a schedule very favorable for the Aztecs.

Here's the full release.

"The San Diego State football team and South Alabama have agreed to a home-and-home series beginning this season, the two schools announced Wednesday.

The Aztecs will first play host to the Jaguars on Sept. 19. SDSU will then take on USA on Oct. 1, 2016 in Mobile, Ala.
The two teams have never met.

South Alabama is coming off a 6-7 season, which culminated in a 33-28 loss to Bowling Green in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., on Dec. 20. The Jaguars finished 5-3 in the Sun Belt Conference, which was good enough for a three-way tie for fourth place.

San Diego State's 2015 slate now includes six games against teams that made a bowl game last year, including non-conference games vs. USA on Sept. 19 and at Penn State on Sept. 26. The Aztecs also play Pac-12 member California in Berkeley on Sept. 12 and will add at least one more non-conference game at a later date.

SDSU is also scheduled to play home Mountain West games vs. Fresno State, Nevada, Utah State and Wyoming, and road league contests at Colorado State, Hawai`i, San José State and UNLV. FS, Nevada, USU and CSU also made bowl games last year. Dates and times for the MW games will be announced at a later date.

San Diego State, which is one of 27 schools to play in a bowl game each of the last five seasons and one of just three from the "Group of 5" conferences, finished 2014 with a 7-6 record and 5-3 in MW play."

New DL target?

Ruben, know anything about Arizona DL Michael Peoples? Scout has him as an early enrollee and says he might have visited this past weekend and offered. I'd expect him to make a quick decision as classes start Tues.

Skylar Spencer or Angelo Chol?

Just curious to see how others feel in here about perhaps starting Angelo Chol over Skylar Spencer to start the game. I'm a HUGE fan of both players, I think at this point in the season both players will be splitting minutes equally (or close to it) from here on out. The minutes played by both players since the start of conference play indicates this will be the case. I think by starting Angelo Chol to begin the game gives us the best chance to score early and not have to fight back from awful offensive play at the start of the game. With more points being scored by the first unit there would be less pressure on the second unit to try and make up some ground, I think Skylar would fit perfectly into that role coming off the bench. He would be needed more on the defensive end to help protect leads instead of trying to create leads to start the game (which hasn't worked at all so far this season).

I understand that not all of the scoring woes to start the game are all Skylar's fault, but I think that Angelo Chol's 60% FGP will benefit the team more to start the game than Skylar's 49%. Coach Fisher and staff have proven that they will make adjustments in the starting rotation to help boost our offense to start games, I think they might (if they haven't already) consider making this switch sooner rather than later.

*Disclaimer* This is just a hypothetical question, by no means am I being over critical of Skylar, I still think he's a very much needed presence in the paint. I'm just wondering if anyone else might agree with my train of thought, of course I welcome those that differ with my opinion and would like to hear from you as well.
