Potential returners

Defensive lineman Jordan Watson and offensive lineman Antonio Rosales were both kicked off the team during winter break due to academics but Rocky Long said at the time that they would both have the opportunity to return if they handled business in the class room.

Currently, I'm hearing that both are doing well enough to return this summer. That said, they will both still be under a tight leash if they do indeed make it back to San Diego State. One good thing about the potential for both of them returning during summer classes is that they will have to prove to the coaches that they have straightened out their acts and can handle both football and school. If that doesn't happen during the summer classes they take here at SDSU, which in my opinion is a pretty reasonable deal, then the staff will likely be forced to part ways with Watson and Rosales for good.

For now though, I'm just updating you all to say both seem to be on track.

Summer School Basketball

Coach Dutch was on 1090 yesterday and said the first session of summer school started this week. He said they get to work 2 hours a week with the players that are in the summer school session. He said there were 8 players enrolled in the session. Does anybody know who the 8 players are that are enrolled into the first session of summer school?

Freshman

Freshman athlete (safety/receiver) Fred Trevillion is no longer a member of the San Diego State football program and I learned today that he is no longer attending the school (session one of summer school began last week).

I've heard a number of different reasons for his removal from the program (or leaving depending on who you talk to) but I will refrain from posting any specifics until I get a comment from Rocky Long. That probably won't be for a while since he will be busy with offseason time off, recruiting this next month and caravans etc.

Trevillion earned five tackles as a special teams player/safety and also made an appearance as a kick returner. Since he's obviously talented enough to burn his redshirt as a freshman, this is a significant loss when you consider the future of the safety position and his overall versatility.

Football Recruiting Update?

So what's the latest?
I've been checking out the film from some the guys we've offered and I have to say, the level of athlete seems to be down this year so far. The few diamonds in the rough have already blown up like Claypool, Saltes, Patmon. Some of the onlinemen (Lewis, Ryan) look really good along w/ some dlinemen (Woodward, weaver) but the skill positions look really weak. Where's the speed? Where's the athleticism? Is this the class that's going to be JC heavy to fill in the talent/numbers gaps across the board?

How's it looking for Josh Robinett (leading?) and Steve Mason?
It'd be nice to get the local 6'7 twin towers on the ends. They're too skinny to help out anytime soon but once they fill out, I think they could be pretty dynamic for us.

Added

Added former San Diego State commit Rayshawn Boyce back to the commit list. Hearing the 6-5 defensive end has done well so far at Arizona Western College and should be on pace to join the team next spring or fall if he continues.

Here's a photo of him and SDSU signee Randy Ricks from this past JuCo season:

couple of questions

I was gone for basically all of spring ball with no internet access so I missed a lot of what's going on, so I had a few questions cuz it's a little too hard to look up.

Did all of this years football class make it in academically?

Does the USD game count as a game or no? Will stats count even if the W/L does not?

For those that witnessed spring practice/game, how do you think we'll stack up against Boise/CAL/Penn State (assuming BSU wins the MTN.)

Does this 2015 team look like it can live up to the expectations? Are we 10 win caliber?

Thanks. Can't wait for Fall.

Junior day

As you may have noticed in the story on QB Zack Weatherly, he will be visiting SDSU on May 30th. I've learned that this will be SDSU's junior day, the second one this offseason. This event won't have as big of an emphasis on local kids ("Hometown hero day") but will include prospects from all over the place.

The two weekends after junior day, SDSU will have a ton of prospects on campus for back to back passing league tournaments (June 6-7, June 12-13).

The following Sundays after the passing league events, SDSU will hold individual camps in Norwalk (June 14) and on campus (June 21)

Some new offers

-RCC offensive lineman Dwayne Wallace. I doubt most of you will remember this but I actually brought up Wallace two years ago when SDSU was pursuing his teammate at Martin Luther king high, Sean Krepsz, who signed with Washington State. Wallace stood out to me, despite being a little overweight, but I was told following the game that his grades were very bad and his recruitment never had a chance because of it.

Last season at RCC, he was names first-team all-state and he's on pace to enroll at a Div. I school following winter break. Check out his film here.

-Plano (Tex.) East WR Tim Wilson. Since it is still pretty hard to find attainable tall WRs with athleticism these days, along with the fact that Johnny McWilliams appears to be bound for basketball, Wilson is a very good option to pursue. Planning to chat with him soon. His film.

-Jeff Horton also offered a pair of Plano high teammates in offensive guard Kadarius Smith and running back Brandon Stephens. Stephens is a long shot recruit while Smith will likely come down for a visit in the near future. Perhaps he will bring Brandon along when he does so. Here's Smith's film.

Football roster

If you click the roster below, you get one roster. If you click the roster from the drop down menu, you get another roster. The real problem is they're both blanked up. Ruben, can you get that squared away? Hang in there, Matt

Cain adds SDSU offer

by Ruben Meza

Temecula (Calif.) Great Oak offensive lineman Bryson Cainlooks nothing like he did during his junior season and that is one reason why his recruitment has led to an onslaught of offers. [

New College Basketball Rules

The NCAA wants to turn college basketball into the NBA. If they also decide to lower the shot clock while in their meetings today, then teams like SDSU and Virginia will need to up their offensive game. The days of stringing games along with suffocating defense because you can't score easy baskets are all but over. Defense will always be an important part of the game, but if you can't score and score fast you'll find wins will be even harder to come by.

I personally like many of the new rule changes, the flow of the game should be much improved now, we just need to be sure we're adjusting our game plan accordingly (to include the types of players that we recruit in the future).
