Stats...

after 3 games a couple of numbers fwiw. Cbssports.com sez overall defense is rated at 64. Beginning of the year I thought we'd be a lot higher. Pass defense?
We've given up more sacks than the opposition-5-7, and that's with fewer pass attempts. And, oh yeah, the best stat, we're 3-0!

Injuries

-Marcus Stamps is going to be OK. Doesn't need surgery. He'll miss 4-6 weeks though.

-Ryan Pope played in four plays last Saturday and he will be watched very closely during practice this week to make sure he doesn't have any issues breathing. He hasn't played in a full practice yet.

-Malik Smith thumb is not broken but he.will be "casted up" moving forward.

NCAA football polls

Listening to the morning talk show guys monday morning and one of the guys said he was a voter on the ap football poll. He was perplexed because they called him on Saturday night and told him his vote had to be in by 8:00 pm. He was saying "how do you cast a vote when four games were still in progress." I guess everybody on the east coast cast theirs earlier. That said, I guess we moved up a spot to 28th, ahead of Boise.

Cal beats Texas

Cal beats Texas

I can't believe that running back fumbHowever this win by Cal certainly help San Diego State in their rent search for top 25 rankingsled the ball. I believe California Bears got away with murder on that although it would've been very difficult for Texas to go the length of the field and score

However this win by Cal certainly helps San Diego State in their search for top 25 rankings

NIU QB

Looks like QB Drew Hare is done for most of the year (or maybe the entire year if he has surgery), possibly ending his college career. I don't follow NIU at all, so I don't know if his backup Ryan Graham (a redshirt sophomore) is an improvement. Injury aside (really do feel bad for him), I'm liking the opportunity this presents for our defense going forward.

TNF

It's looking way ahead, but SDSU's chances of a big bowl game after the season may be dependent of schools currently ahead of them. Unless you're superstitious about this sort of stuff, the game to watch tonight at 4:30 is No. 6 Houston @ Cincinnati. Cincy, yes the team SDSU destroyed in Hawaii last year, will be the team to cheer for and they actually match up very well with the Cougars.

Rocky Long

So it's my pleasure to eat crow in regards to Rocky Long and point out that I'm not speaking for the others that thought Rocky should be fired.

After looking over his career I thought there's no way this man would change. Boy was I wrong. This guy morphed to the point where I don't find him in anyway the same coach that was heading a 1-3 football team last year. He not only absorbed the punishment he was given, but dealt with it in a spectacular way.

There are 4 things that HIS team has done that I wouldn't have thought possible under him.

1st, after a 1-3 start, his team never blinked and never had a total team brain fart. That Aztec team should have beaten every one of those Mountain West teams and they did. They didn't just beat them, they hammered them. Totally out of character.

2nd, while I thought they should beat Air Force in the Championship game, they came through under duress for the first time in their winning streak. Winning games under duress has not been a hallmark of Rocky during his career.

3rd, what can you say about the Bowl game other than wow. He treated this game like what it should have been, a real game. It wasn't fun and games as has been his outlook in the past. He kept the teams focus on what they were there for and it was a total surprise(and joy) for me.

4th, there was no PRESEASON this year. He, his coaches and his team dealt brilliantly with the pressure of playing a good power 5 team. Make no mistake, that Cal team is a good football team and SDSU beat them. It wasn't an anomaly, it wasn't lucky, it was a man on man win.

This team has spectacular written all over it. I'll enjoy the ride and I'm sure everyone else will as well. Let's hope San Diego wakes up and decides that this team isn't fools gold and starts to come out in droves. Let's hope the administration works with the money in San Diego and promotes this team like they deserve to be promoted.

Rocky I was wrong about you. You've taken this team to the next level. Let's get to the next level soon.

Men's Soccer defeats #1 Akron

GREAT win tonight for our Aztecs at home. Defeated #1 rank powerhouse Akron by score of 1-0. Electric atmosphere and a much needed statement win for Coach Lev after a ton of close calls.

Stoked for Coach Lev. If you haven't met him, you won't meet a better guy, soccer/futbol guy and perfect fit for SDSU.

Predicting SDSU to be the most improved team in Pac-12 soccer this year.

Ref crew suspended

i was just reading about the crew that ref'd the central Michigan- Oklahoma St game being suspended for 2 games.

It caught my eye 'cause when I first saw the highlight I thought, "no sympathy, that's happened to us a million times.". In the last few yrs....the fumble at BYU, the clip at Mizzou, the 9 pass interference calls at Fresno, the bogus fumble call against Fresno at the Q when one of our player chased it cause everyone thought the play was over. I'm sure I'm missing some...but it really is interesting to me how much outrage this has sparked when it seems to happen to us almost annually...usually in big games.
