Confirmed today linebacker Fred Melifonwu is back on the team. He's attending summer school right now (first session). Now he has to prove himself to earn a scholarship, or earn back his scholarship in this case. He's a walk on to start.

To recap, he left the team mid-season when his playing time was on pace to finally pick up due to injuries (Ricks, Fely). That's not a good look but it's promising that he's attempting to return. He also is probably taking it seriously considering Rocky is giving him another chance. I'm sure they had a long discussion with each other.

Ruben, how about an article involving...

An in depth interview of Malik Pope. Sure, there was an article in the UT about him coming back but there were no quotes from Malik himself. I know that I and most likely many others would love to hear of his experience, what is was like working out for various teams, what type of feedback he received, his personal and team goals for next year and what he plans to do this off season to move into next year's first round. This would be great stuff! Thanks

Need to have accountability against WSU if allegiations against SDSU were false

I might be very naive but i think the NCAA should investigate the accusations made against SDSU basketball program by WSU and penalize WSU ifbthey were making false accusations without due process against a university and reprimand them for making allegiations without proper evidence that are made public and really begin to punish universities that make accusations such as Washington State without providing solid proof or evidence of wrong doing. I know Fisher runs a classy program and had to bite his tongue during the whole process but these practices need to cease or have harsh penalties to programs and coaches who do these type of slanderous practice that really tarnish a program's reputation without any proof of evidence. I am certain nothing will happen, but there needs to be much more overall governing institutional controls set in place. That is just my opinion.

Sexual Assaults on Campus

I've been one of Rocky's biggest un-fans. But I've always admired how he doles out punishment regardless of the players place on the team and his making sure that when playing the military academies that his teams treat them with respect.

Quite frankly the entire SDSU athletic department seems to be coached and has brought out the best in our young men and women that provide us with such fun. Kudo's to SDSU.

We seem to have escaped the entire win at any cost behavior that many have accepted as a truth. That doesn't mean I believe everyone is squeeky clean, but it isn't rampant and seem to be isolated non-sanctioned events.

Very proud of SDSU.

Some tidbits

Now that the school year is finishing up for a lot of the 2016 signees I've been hearing good things about almost all of them on track to make it in for the second session of summer of school. I know that it is highly unlikely that the entire class makes it in, since almost every year there are around 3-6 kids that no show (including weird circumstances like Desean Holmes), but as of now I've heard that there is only one recruit that's questionable as things stand now.

For reference, at this point of the year, I usually hear rumblings of at least one or two names that are borderline and maybe two more names that are unlikely to make it in. That list then grows anywhere from 2-6 as Mountain West media day nears and Rocky reveals who won't be on the fall depth chart.

So to have just one name pop up, not to mention a sign of confidence in the rest of the class to be make it in for summer school, is a very good sign.

Obviously, I'll withhold the name until it becomes absolutely certain that it won't happen and I hope this thread doesn't turn into a name-guessing game. This is just to keep you guys informed.

I know things can change between now and mid-summer but, again, this is a very positive sign. I also don't think that it is a coincidence and that perhaps it is a reflection of recruiting multi-sport athletes, which the coaching staff emphasized this year, as the signees have pretty much been forced into keeping up in school in order to handle their course workload throughout the school year. I'll be sure to ask Rocky about that if things continue in this route.

Summer camps/visits

Tony White tweeted out and reconfirmed SDSU's summer camp schedule today:

June 5th: Aztec individual skills camp
June 11-12: SDSU HS passing camp
June 17-18: SDSU HS passing camp
June 19: Aztec individual skills camp

If you know any high school kids that are interested in attending the skills camp here's the flyer.

These are really good events and a lot of recruits that attend these events end up visiting/touring the campus during these weekends so we'll finally start to see some visits pick up. There haven't been many recruits on campus and there has also been very little talk about junior days. Last year, the hometown hero day was the big one that happened early on during the summer and it seemed like a successful event. This year it appears as though the staff will hold off until July to hold its big visit day. I guess they are taking a new approach to it as I was told they are going to try "a different deal." I'm not completely sure what that means as of now but I'm sure there's a reason behind holding the big visit day closer to the season when more hype picks up regarding this upcoming season. I'll keep you updated.
