Emotional hedge

Admittedly, I'm reaching for football conversation....I can't wait guys! I was thinking about this earlier, and thought I'd share....I don't gamble much these days. Usually just a couple times a yr...when a game really jumps out at me, or when I emotionally hedge a game....I did it last yr in the MWC Championship Game and I see a few opportunities on the horizon this Aztec season. Let me explain.

I think this first came to me when the Angels (my American League team) were in the '02 world series. When my team is playing in a big game, sometimes I'll ask myself "how much am I willing to spend to guarantee my team a win?". That fall I thought I'd happily spend 250 to guarantee the Halo's a world series win.....So, I bet 250 on the Giants (the opposition).... And if the Angels won, and I lost the $...WHO CARES....a small price to pay to guarantee my team their first (only) world series.. Heck Ive smiled every time I've thought about that season...a well spent 250 if you ask me...but if my team had lost, the opposition would pay some of my bills that month....the hedge....

Some of my friends ride me that I'm betting on red and black, so to speak, but I don't see it like that. I guess the amount has to be reasonable....not enough to really sting.....Maybe u bet the bar tab or your phone bill... or whatever u decide...but either your team wins and your thrilled, or they lose and the bad guys cushion the blow by picking up the check

I'll tell u for sure this season I'll be putting a few hundy on Cal when they play San Diego State. I never hoped to lose money like this before. If the Aztecs win and I lose a few hundred, I'll be smiling for a month.. But if we lose, at least the bears will be paying for my day at Aztec Warrior Stadium .

It can be a great football season guys. I can't wait!

Fall Camp around the corner!

With Fall Camp around the corner I just wanted to see who y'all are most excited to see? I can't wait to see what freshman will push for playing time even if it's on ST and the guy I'm hoping continues from what he was doing this spring is Sergio Phillips, if he can become something special than our Defense won't have to many weaknesses! The Football season can't get here fast enough!!!

Second half of summer

San Diego State has got off to a solid start in this class and there's a good chance it can end the summer with some of their top targets. Here are the guys with strong mutual interest you should be aware of down this final stretch before fall camp begins:

-Bishop Alemany LB Lamin Touray

I don't intend to get all of your hopes up but this would be an incredible haul to end the summer.

More on Desean Holmes....

Rocky Long said on Monday that the staff found out Desean Holmes was gone when they checked his dorm room after he didn't show up to a morning lifting session. He made it pretty clear that the staff did not know Holmes was gone/leaving and now Rocky doesn't plan to deal with him anymore.

Understandably, this has led some people in the public to be disappointed that Rocky has given up on the kid (especially when you consider his past). On the other hand, Holmes' decision to leave without informing the staff has also been heavily criticized.

Today I was contacted by Holmes' foster mother, who said that Holmes actually did tell a member of the staff that he was leaving. She said she's disappointed that Rocky is slandering him.

"[They] know exactly why he left. Desean checked out of admissions, housing and [the] financial office. He didn't just leave."

His foster mother also said that her husband spoke with a member of the staff for over an hour about it (although she hasn't responded as to when exactly this conversation happened).

"Desean wanted to leave and cause no problems but they don't need to talk bad about him. Let's just keep it simple, it was not what [Desean] expected. It's that simple, he will not bad talk the school."

If what she is saying here is true, the big question here is why Rocky would make up the, and I'm paraphrasing, "we went to his dorm room and, to our surprise, he wasn't there" story up. Why not just tell us Desean let a staff member know that he was leaving and then checked out? Was this to prevent the SDSU football program looking 'not good enough' for a high caliber recruit after one week of school? I really don't know why a made up story like that would be necessary. But I plan to ask him about it after practice today.

Don Coryell Memorial Golf Tournament – invitation

Dear friends of the Aztecs.

The Don Coryell Memorial golf tournament will be held July 29 at 12 o'clock at Carmel Mountain Ranch golf course. Since many of you have helped sponsor the tournament in the past, I thought it would extend an invitation to play in the tournament itself. The cost is $180 and you can register by going to http://www.goaztecs.com/AFL

Typically, this tournament fills up rather fast, but there are a few openings remaining. Trust me when I tell you, it is well worth the effort and expense to play in this tournament. Hope to see all out there on the 29th. Go Aztecs

A couple of interesting possible transfers

The first one is not unlikely at all DJ Riggins 6' 200 RB(4.47) currently at Pierce College was full qualifier.signed with UH for 2014 injured so came in in 2015.Bounced back. Wants to tay close to home Was three star rivals. Should have three to play. other more far out rumor.A far more remote one but still in contact with us is Jarrett Stidham the Baylor QB bailout. more likely Oregon, but you never know. I do know we have been in contact with both.

Update on the class

To recap clarify on some things:

-SDSU had a 2016 scholarship available after signing day and it will go to SBCC linebacker Temerick Harper.

-Michigan OL Trenton Fincher took Donnell Greene's scholarship after Greene failed to earn his AA.

-I'm also now hearing that WR transfer Quest Truxton will join the team on scholarship. I keep hearing Tim Vizzi comps too.

-There is also a longggg list of expected walkons that I will share soon.

Check out the roster on Go Aztecs.com

After years of my whining about them not keeping it up to date doing a good job now . You'll notice that many of the weights the players have been updated almost weekly. For instance Penny weighs 220 now Parker Baldwin is up to 215, I also noticed tight end Warrring is at 245. That's a guy that can be a weapon in the passing game if he can block well enough to get in there.
