Sorry I've been off most of the past few days but here's tonight's update: It sounds like Zach Arnett will remain on staff with a pay increase, but Tony White is now leaning toward the ASU position.
One interesting nugget that has been brought to my attention is that Rocky offered both Arnett and White pay bumps with title promotions as "Co-DCs" to keep them on staff. That was enough to keep Arnett from leaving for Montana, but it might not be enough for White. (By the way, I have also confirmed that Doug Deakin will be the special teams coordinator.)
Not only can ASU pay White more, but from talking with my ASU contacts this week they have convinced me that it's much more than that. White
really will have less recruiting responsibilities there simply due to the amount of resources and assistance ASU offers. That seems to be the major difference since his goal is to become a head coach one day and there's not really much room for him to grow any more under Coach Long (although it can be argued that Danny Gonzales' past year was a good example that could set up Tony White for a potential DC job as soon as next offseason).
Back to the recruiting stuff: You guys have all heard this by now but Power 5 schools have boatloads of money, much of which is used to staff entire departments dedicated to the logistics of recruiting.

SDSU, on the other hand, basically relied on Coach White and Kevin McGarry and some office assistants to handle the load.
So not only does White have to coach corners, evaluate 100s of prospects, keep his phone on 24/7, set up visits, set up phone calls with recruits for assistants, fill out NCAA paperwork for coaching visits during contact periods, send out mail, update the assistant coaches on which prospects they need to get in touch with or go meet, provide rundowns of all the recruits that are on campus or attending the summer passing camps etc, but his doing at all at a low salary in an expensive city.
(I've also heard (not confirmed) that White and his family have been renting in San Diego during his entire coaching tenure here. I know little about real estate but I'm guessing the housing market in the ASU area is much more affordable.)
So while I initially thought ASU was being a little shady by promising him little recruiting responsibility despite their fans clamoring about needing an ACE recruiter to Herm Edwards staff, Tony White could still be a very involved recruiter for ASU without all the tiny little detailed stuff he had to take care of while at SDSU.
Who do I think replaces him and Coach Gonzales? Refer to the other thread where I addressed two names there. Who will now be SDSU's lead recruiter?
My guess would be either Hunkie Cooper or Ernie Lawson. Kevin McGarry is also another option since he's been doing it for quite some time, not to mention that he's basically been an assistant secondaries coach the past few seasons (during practices, he was always lined up on the back end with White & Gonzales) and could get promoted as a DB coach.
I wouldn't be surprised if
Jake Laudenslayer gets a sniff since he was the assistant for football recruiting this past year. He was mainly only involved with on-campus tours and whatnot though. He was also an offensive grad assistant and that currently isn't a need for Rocky to promote anybody to since the offensive staff is still intact.
