DJ Pumphrey

SDSU running back DJ Pumphrey will travel to Hawaii this Saturday. Pumphrey took 22 reps in practice today, according to Rocky Long, and he also told the coaching staff that his ankle is at 90 percent right now.

If he practices again tomorrow he will be a game time decision on Saturday. What's interesting about that is if he looks fine during warmups, he'll likely get the start vs. Hawaii. If not, he'll at least get some early reps. Rocky said he doesn't want him to get cold/rusty standing on the sidelines too long before putting him in.

Press conference notes

-Rocky said Hawaiis quarterback's perform much better when they play at home.
-He said the seams the o-line created in the run game "were much bigger", similar to how they looked in the second half of the penn state game.
-Asked Rocky what he thought of Maxwell Smith's record on the road (Smith hasn't won a road game as a starter during his entire career):
"I’m not aware of that and I don’t need to know."
-Rocky said Chase Price is unselfish.

"If you're not the starter, there's a lot of kids that say baloney and transfer. It's more prevalent in skill positions."

Injury updates

-DJ Pumphrey didn't take an MRI today or get retested from the sounds of it, as the team medical staff is "confident" it's just a high ankle sprain.

-Rocky said from his experience, it could be as little as a one week deal but he expects Pumphrey to miss at least two weeks.

-Mikah Holder has a strained hamstring and will be limited in practice this week. He was limited in practice last week as well.

-Nico Siragusa played the entire Fresno State game and played well through the pain. He's expected to have more soreness in his ankle than he's had in the past few games since he played in the whole game and SDSU ran the ball so much, but he should be fine moving forward.

Passing league

Kyeler Burke of Hamilton Arizona stood out in the first game I watched.

Lucas Johnson of Mt. Carmel is a decent QB. Good deep ball, reads both halves of field. Coiuld have quicker delivery. Want to see if he can make throws in tight spots.

Mt Carmel slot WR Rashid Shaheed is OK.

Nico Siragusa/ Sergio Phillips

NIco Siragusa left the game in the fourth quarter due to ankle soreness built up during the game. Rocky said Siragusa actually did pretty well in the first half but he was too sore to play at his best late in the third quarter, because of the soreness.

Sergio Phillips hurt his knee when he went into the game to replace Siragusa and was pulled. He's taking an MRI tomorrow but it's believed to be a strained MCL. If it's just a strain, Phillips can likely play this week if needed. The knee injury could be worse and may possibly require operation, but as of now the trainers don't believe it's too serious.

Antonio Rosales went in after Siragusa, so he would be the backup left guard if Phillips isn't cleared.

Darrell Greene

This is Darrell Greene and the rest of the suspended players' last week practicing on the scout team.

They will practice at their normal spots next week, even though they won't be playing much. I expect Greene and Melifonwu to contribute immediately. Babiash should also help in the corner rotation but he will likely be used more on special teams for now, I'm guessing.
