Recruits Remaining

As we got our 22nd Commitment lwe now have five wr's coming in (when you count Wayne Jackson). I guess we will be tossing the rock a round a lot more in the next two years. Obviously we need to be more balanced in the future. Can we afford to take Ubois or Sykes with such few remaining openings and five wr's committed?
WE need lineman still ,Durant,Tucker,Davidson,Jabari Watson maybe,(do not know his interest) and Freddy Holly if we can get him at runningback. Then there is RA at cb. Linebackers Justus TE'I, Cassidy and SK one of them. I figure six more opening max. Grouped them together by position
CB 1 Burgess or Robert Awuyangi
LB 2. Cassidy or Spenser Kotanga ,Justus Tei, Himphill
OL 3. Durant,Tucker or Davidson
DL 4 Watson or Tucker Davidson
RB 5. Holly, Riley
WR 6 Ubosi or Sykes

The ones in bold I do not think we will get. Itlaics two way players
(obviously I meant remaining not whatever I typed)

OT Erik Swenson

A long shot, I'm sure, yet at the price of a phone call it could be a golden opportunity.

Offensive Tackle Erik Swensen of Downers Grove South HS (Illinois) has been a verbal commit to Michigan for the last two years. Jim Harbaugh just told this 6'5", 300 pound offensive lineman to take a hike. He doesn't need him. This leaves Swenson scrambling to find a match, and may stay at home by going to either Northwestern or Illinois.

Other MWC Games 1/23

Fresno just beat AFA 56 - 55 on the road.

2nd place Boise State, one game back of SDSU, is on the road at Wyoming. Early in game Wyoming with a 5 pt lead. Pulling for Wyoming today.

UNLV is on the road at Nevada at 7pm tonight. Vegas oddsmakers have Nevada as a favorite. Wow, how much has UNLV fallen. Rooting for Nevada.

3rd place New Mexico is a 8 point favorite in a road game at SJSU that tips off at 2pm.

Heading out to the game in half hour. I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it just me or is this year's recruiting class very unexciting so far?

I live out of the area. Never played football. Don't review all of the Hudl tapes and haven't seen any of the recruits in person. I simply read everything I see on this site, aztecmesa, etc. to keep informed. From everything I have read, it seems like we have commitments from a bunch of very average 2* and low 3*s. I am concerned about a lack of impact players or kids that have all conference potential. What do you local experts have to say? Hopefully, I am off base...

Basketball Practice Note

No scrimmage today.

LOTS of focus on offensive sets. LOTS of coaching. Movement off screens was crisper than I've seen.

Stats were kept on turnovers and offensive rebounds during the two live 5-on-5 sessions. When you're not a great shooting team, those are the elements of offense that you can control. You could see noticeable player reactions to turnovers.

Particular attention was paid to counteracting the physical inside play that they'll see in Ft. Collins. The scout team never switched on defense, and they were told to guard HARD.

Parker was excused from the last hour because it was clear his knee was bothering him. Ben Perez was next to him on the bench, but I didn't hear an explanation. He was a full participant earlier.

Shrigley and Gill-Caesar did not practice, though the trainer was attending to Matt. Hoetzel and Narain were full participants throughout. I felt both were having trouble with the physical stuff inside. Z was abusing Max when they were one-on-one.

This team endures a harsher coaching approach than we've generally scene from our staff. Most of it relates to the coaches preaching results over potential. Though there is plenty of praise given, this is not a team that seems to respond to the pat on the back approach.

Flowing more of the offense through Winston on the low post is giving him more confidence, and he is a much more verbal leader now.

It's great to see how the coaches share the teaching responsibility. With the focus on the offense today, Mark Fisher took a bigger role.

A free throw shooting drill wrapped the practice. Winston's team was down by a point and a half and Coach told him that if he made the next throw without touching net, he'd tie the drill. Swish. Lots of smiles. A good way to end practice.
