Romeo Doubs

Really intrigued by this offer because he plays QB but clearly on the type of team that just needs him there because he's by far their best athlete. Interested to see what we offered him as, I'm assuming WR. He got 4 MWC offers in the last 24 hours (UNM, SDSU, UNLV, SJSU) but I could see UNM offering as QB.

2017 NFL Draft

Day 2 of the draft. Aztecs on the board:

DJ
Kazee
Brunskill
Munson
Siragusa

Expected that at least 4 get drafted and still shocked that Munson is likely the UDFA. Are there 230 better college football players than Munson? No!!

Looking forward to meeting up with DJ over this weekend and giving much needed congrats to GOAT.

Baseball takes 2 of 3

Aztecs defeated UCSB 5-4 today to take 2 of 3 road games to move to 29-12 on the season.

NM meanwhile swept hapless UNLV at home to stay couple of games in front of Aztecs. Key fact, NM is very beatable when playing on the road away from high altitude advantage at home.

HUGE SERIES as Aztecs will host NM this coming weekend. Get out and SUPPORT Aztecs baseball.

3-star Nevada QB Kenyon Oblad talks SDSU

I recently had a chance to catch up with Aztecs QB target Kenyon Oblad to talk recruiting. It's clear SDSU is in the mix here, but it also seems like he's waiting to see who else offers.

Here's a portion of our conversation:

On SDSU: “They really want me. They just talk about how they’ve been recruiting me since I was a freshman and they’ve always had that faith in me. That’s a big thing for me because right now they are only four schools that have offered so they do believe in me but SDSU has been believing in me since my sophomore year so that goes a long way.”

On his last visit to SDSU: “I went down there a month ago to watch their spring scrimmage. I got to see the coaches in action and see how they work with the guys and I got to sit in on a meeting with the offensive coordinator. I liked it a lot, I liked how he coached and taught his quarterback.”

You can read the complete article and watch his junior film here.

SDSU puts out its vision

The UT just ran this story: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com...ent/sd-fi-soccercity-sdsu-20170321-story.html

"The plan envisions:

  • Aztec stadium: 12 acres purchased or leased from the city for a stadium of 35,000 seats with rights to expand to 40,000. There is no mention of sharing the facility with Major League Soccer or any noncollegiate user.
  • Campus expansion: 35 acres purchased or leased from the city “for future university expansion.”
  • Parking: 10,800 spaces, based on the 40,000-seat size that would be ready at the time of the stadium’s opening with half adjacent to the stadium, 25 percent within a two-block radius and the remainder throughout the project.
  • Stadium control: SDSU or the “appropriate collegiate event host” would control all rights to “other collegiate sporting events.”
  • Developer: The university said it does not intend to be the sole owner or lessee of the site. “Any partner must agree to move forward with design and construction of a multiuse stadium within 90 days of land transfer” and it fails to do so, SDSU can proceed with design and construction on its own.
SDSU Athletic Director John David Wicker characterized the position paper as a “needs” list, not a formal counterproposal to SoccerCity."

This matches one of the rumors I heard very recently, that SDSU wanted to get a decent portion of the MV site with much more control of it compared to what FSI had planned, which was to basically get all the land for their own interests and try to attach SDSU's name to the project with MANY limitations.

There's a lot of good talent in some of the overlooked areas this year compared to previous recruiting cycles. Another recruit the Aztecs are on early is New Mexico athlete Jordan Byrd.

He visited the campus yesterday. He's another playmaker that plays QB (he runs the triple-option but is also a receiver) at his high school out of necessity but can help in a lot of ways at different positions in college.

SDSU also had Paramount DE/LB/TE Jermayne Lole in for an unofficial over the weekend.

I think Lole is fantastic and the only reason he doesn't have big time offers is his size.
