As the dominoes keep falling, I wanted to post a quick heads up note before I call it a night: the commitment of Jordan Byrd should help SDSU's chances with New Mexico DE Keshawn Banks.

Banks is a top-tier MW prospect and he would probably have P5 offers if he wasn't in New Mexico. He's very big, gets around the edge especially well for his size and plays the run with good awareness and balance. I think he's a mix somewhere between Cody Galea and Dakota Turner for comparison, but with a little more quick-twitch ability in him.

Taeshon Cherry

For some reason there isn't a thread on it but Taeshon Cherry is announcing later this week.

The buzz is USC but I wouldn't be shocked if he picks Oregon to play with Miles Norris. I don't think he ends up at Arizona, but again it wouldn't be shocking. SDSU is definitely the long shot but we'll see. He was on campus all weekend with his team at the tournament but only he knows how interested he is in staying home.

BTW, he congratulated JR Justice on his commitment to SDSU.

On Jack York...

Texas three-star offensive lineman Jack York is very close to pulling the trigger and committing to San Diego State but he's feeling inclined to visit some of the other schools that have offered him out of respect. If it wasn't for that, or some other schools like Boise State, Cal, UCLA and Texas Tech digging around but not offering, he would commit.

He's the ideal Texas recruit. He loves the staff, loves talking football with Coach Schmidt, loves the Texas connections with Adam Hall and Jeff Horton and Blane Morgan is also good friends with his high school coach. His preference is to get out of Texas (rare). He loves bass fishing and said San Diego is a great area for that. Loved his visit.

He's just the prototypical stud prospect SDSU looks for and the mutual interest is very strong. He can play either tackle or guard but I think his best upside is as a very long guard.

I'm telling you guys, if things shape up how I think they can, this seriously could be the best recruiting class SDSU has ever had. Athletically, they will be right up there. And when you match that with their personalities, maturity and attitude about accountability and football, it can be a very special group.

It's amazing what winning can do.

Early signing period Great for San Diego State University

San Diego State University has been great at the identifying quality players early in the recruiting process . The pac five universities then try to poach our commitments in February after they lose out on the ones they really want. I believe this early signing. Will be helpful in keeping those types of players and reward us for doing our homework properly and identifying quality players .

College Football News

CFN, has us picked to play Louisiana Tech in the New Mexico Bowl. They also have us picked #3 in the mountain west.behind Colorado State and Boise State. Looks like our boys have something to prove. We still get no respect, even after the last two years. I think we will play Colorado State in our play off and beat them to win the Las Vegas Bowl. As for the NCS that's a crap shoot for all I know.
