Kenyon Sims from Lincoln??

I see that Kenyon Sims from Lincoln HS in San Diego hasn't committed yet and hasn't seemed to lean to any other school decommitting from Utah... He is an impact runner with very good speed and decent size (6-0 200lbs)... Just wondering if SDSU has even looked at Sims as an option? Have they even offered the young man as Wyoming just offered him... If SDSU is placing an umbrella around San Diego, he would be a great get... He is a 3 star player and has great potential. Ruben, would he be a viable option?

Addison Reed

Congrats to Aztec Addison Reed for signing a 2 year $17 million contract with Twins today.

http://www.startribune.com/reliever-addison-reed-agrees-to-2-year-deal-with-twins/469143923/

"Reed has averaged 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings over his career, with only 2.3 walks per nine. He is durable, too; he pitched in an MLB-leading 157 games over the past two seasons, and he has never appeared in fewer than 55 games since 2012.

Reed played for the late Tony Gwynn at San Diego State and in 2009 was the Aztecs closer and a teammate of Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg. He was drafted in the third round in 2010 by the White Sox and saved 69 games for Chicago in 2012 and 2013, going 11-for-11 against the Twins."

NCAA basketball

Big day today in NCAA Hoops with upsets all over the place.

Within our conference:

Wyoming lost to Colorado State
Air Force beat San Jose State

Gotta say this team could very easily be 14-1 or 13-2 had we stayed healthy and Trey Kell not battled injury for a handful of days

NCAA National Football Championship

Normally I wouldn't post something like this, however, the Aztecs could definitely use a MAJOR push the last 90 minutes.

SDSU is in the National Football Helmet Championship and need your votes before 2 pm!

We went from being up 600 votes to down 1500 votes in about 8 hours!!

MWC BB Today

Pre season favorite Nevada won on the road vs AFA to go to 4-0. BUT, they haven't played UNLV, SDSU or Boise State yet. We'll see what they're made out of next month when they get UNLV twice, SDSU, Boise State, road game at USU and finish the season at SDSU.

San Jose (SDSU' next opponent) is getting throttled at NM and are living up to their title of worst team in league...............but SJSU took UNLV to OT before losing.

Colorado State lost in OT at home to Fresno State tonight. Like Coach Eustachy said after SDSU loss, their undefeated home record of 7-0 didn't have quality opponents.

Wyoming's Dalton played out of his mind again tonight vs. Boise State with 29 pts, 12 Rebs.....as Cowboys beat Boise State at home in OT. First conf loss for Boise.

Utah St at UNLV today.............so much for all the hype around UNLV eh. 5 star recruits..........0 star results.

Bowlsby

No words.

"Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby told me he’s not ready for any serious talks about expanding the playoff, and that the current 4-team CFP is fair to undefeated UCF because the Knights likely wouldn’t be undefeated if they played a Power 5 conference schedule.

“It’s fair because playing in the American Athletic is not the same as playing in the Big Ten or the SEC or the Big 12, it’s just not. They have some big games, but they don’t have an Iowa State who can beat a second-ranked Oklahoma. The depth of those leagues and the quality at the top, getting ready for one game against Auburn, that’s a lot different than playing Auburn every week. ...

"TCU, if TCU and UCF played 10 times, I defy anybody to convince me that UCF would win the majority of the games. Of course I’ve only been looking at it for 35 years.”

New PAC12 coaches

I think recruiting is going to Get considerably harder now than it has been. Although we never competed with UCLA for recruits, Chip Kelly is bringing that program back to prominence. Herm Edwards should be able to recruit, especially with Gonzalez and White on staff. Now, rumors are that Arizona will land Kevin Sumlin. THAT'D be huge, and they'll be much more competitive recruiting now. My hope is they focus more on TX than SoCal. Even OSU's new coach is a stronger recruiter. We need a splash hire, maybe one off the fired staffs. Someone with connections locally or in TX.

One more RB

Need some good news? SDSU's need for a running back to close the class in February has become a huge priority.

Expect them to make a run after a Louisiana prospect, Tony St. Julien, who the Aztecs have a legit shot at.

He'll probably be your favorite running back out of the options already mentioned on this board. He looks a lot like Rashaad Penny did in high school!

Thursday update: Tony White to ASU

Please keep this info and any comments you have regarding this topic here on this thread.

Sorry I've been off most of the past few days but here's tonight's update: It sounds like Zach Arnett will remain on staff with a pay increase, but Tony White is now leaning toward the ASU position.

One interesting nugget that has been brought to my attention is that Rocky offered both Arnett and White pay bumps with title promotions as "Co-DCs" to keep them on staff. That was enough to keep Arnett from leaving for Montana, but it might not be enough for White. (By the way, I have also confirmed that Doug Deakin will be the special teams coordinator.)

Not only can ASU pay White more, but from talking with my ASU contacts this week they have convinced me that it's much more than that. White really will have less recruiting responsibilities there simply due to the amount of resources and assistance ASU offers. That seems to be the major difference since his goal is to become a head coach one day and there's not really much room for him to grow any more under Coach Long (although it can be argued that Danny Gonzales' past year was a good example that could set up Tony White for a potential DC job as soon as next offseason).

Back to the recruiting stuff: You guys have all heard this by now but Power 5 schools have boatloads of money, much of which is used to staff entire departments dedicated to the logistics of recruiting.

EX: https://sports.yahoo.com/georgia-ne...ck-sabans-process-game-changer-050129185.html

SDSU, on the other hand, basically relied on Coach White and Kevin McGarry and some office assistants to handle the load.

So not only does White have to coach corners, evaluate 100s of prospects, keep his phone on 24/7, set up visits, set up phone calls with recruits for assistants, fill out NCAA paperwork for coaching visits during contact periods, send out mail, update the assistant coaches on which prospects they need to get in touch with or go meet, provide rundowns of all the recruits that are on campus or attending the summer passing camps etc, but his doing at all at a low salary in an expensive city.

(I've also heard (not confirmed) that White and his family have been renting in San Diego during his entire coaching tenure here. I know little about real estate but I'm guessing the housing market in the ASU area is much more affordable.)

So while I initially thought ASU was being a little shady by promising him little recruiting responsibility despite their fans clamoring about needing an ACE recruiter to Herm Edwards staff, Tony White could still be a very involved recruiter for ASU without all the tiny little detailed stuff he had to take care of while at SDSU.

Who do I think replaces him and Coach Gonzales? Refer to the other thread where I addressed two names there. Who will now be SDSU's lead recruiter?

My guess would be either Hunkie Cooper or Ernie Lawson. Kevin McGarry is also another option since he's been doing it for quite some time, not to mention that he's basically been an assistant secondaries coach the past few seasons (during practices, he was always lined up on the back end with White & Gonzales) and could get promoted as a DB coach.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jake Laudenslayer gets a sniff since he was the assistant for football recruiting this past year. He was mainly only involved with on-campus tours and whatnot though. He was also an offensive grad assistant and that currently isn't a need for Rocky to promote anybody to since the offensive staff is still intact.

WR

College coaches around the country are likely going through commitment lists of every single school around the country, singling out the commits that did not sign during the early signing period. It's simple: If they didn't sign then, there's obviously a chance for recruits to flip before the Feb. signing period.

I won't lie, I've peeked around too. And one name I was intrigued about that is now popping up on SDSU's radar:

Moreno Valley four-star WR Manuel Allen.

There's talk of him wanting to stay out west and I'm hearing SDSU has a chance. The mutual interest seems very real. I could see him even flipping his commitment before he even officially visits SDSU's campus (which would likely be on the 19th or 26th).
