-DB Tariq Thompson has an AC strain but is fine. No surgery needed. Practiced today.

-Noble Hall is fully cleared and practiced.

-Chase Jasmin practiced very lightly with a big brace on. Rocky said he would play if there was a game this week.

-Rocky said he wanted at leaat one wide receiver to take over this spring but it's still wide open. There's decent depth but...

-It appears as though the staff is really going to push Ryan Pope this offseason because Zach Thomas took a lot of first team reps.

-During a defense only period I noticed that Rocky had Zach Arnett AND Ernie Lawson simultaneously give signals to the defense. They gave different signals, which was weird, so I asked Rocky if they were signaling to their own position groups. They weren't.

Instead, one coach was "live" and the other wasn't. One was real and the other was fake gibberish. This is preparation for the ASU game since Coach Gonzales and White know the signals.

Rocky doesn't plan to switch his own signals, so he's going to develop a pattern that the players on the field know which signals to actually look at. The coach giving the true live signals could change any series, any set of downs, any quaters or numerically like every five plays etc.

That could be a problem if one or two players get mixed up and read the fake signal on a given play. Today, there was one instance where Parker Baldwin was reading Arnett's signals for multiple plays before asking, "wait, Coach Lawson isn't live?"

They plan to try it again tomorrow.

Eat CROW!!!!

I am more that happy to eat crow! They weren’t playing dog shit, let’s all be honest. But I also said you never know in a tournament in 3 days. I didn’t think it was possible!! But, they turned around their season! THEY DID IT! They didn’t fold! They stayed composed, and hey finished!!!! Cameron Rooks deserves so much credit and applause!!!

Tariq Thompson left Saturday's scrimmage with a shoulder injury. We'll find out his status Monday. Tayler Hawkins played on both the first and second team because of this.

LB Ronley Lakalaka and CB Jeff Clay played today but both will have surgeries on their shoulders (labrum) on Monday. This was scheduled prior to spring camp and they've made it through practices fine.

Trenton Thompson suffered a minor arm injury but seemed fine.

Kahale Warring (back) played and is cleared.

I thought Kaegun Williams had a good scrimmage and he made it even better w g en he popped outside for a 50-ishyd touchdown up the sideline, out running Addison Umrarong. I still think he has the best ability of the backups but was down on his production this spring. That changed a bit today.

Collin Andrews made a great jump ball catch and Isiah Richardson caught a deep ball over the top as well.

Both backup QBs threw bad interceptions. Salazar fumbled a pitch in the red zone and Clay picked him off during the final two minute drive.

Agnew tried a check down pass but Kyahva Tezino made a diving deflection that ended up in Israel Cabrera's hands.

Looking for a mutual fan base

I’m old and decrepit and definitely not tech savvy. I registered on the Wichita State Basketball chat room web site to try and get the idea across of a mutual fan base for the first and maybe the second round for their team, here at Viejas and the Aztecs in Wichita I searched all over and couldn’t find a tab to post my thought.

I think someone on this board that’s “with it”
should float the idea to the Shocker fans.

I think as long as each fan base uphold their end of the bargain, it would be GREAT for both sides.

MWC Championship vs. NM Thread

SDSU is a 4 point favorite

RPI: SDSU 70 NM 115

Like SDSU, they rotate a lot of guys and starters rarely play over 30 mins. They rested starters late in the game yesterday. Utah State was a much weaker opponent though but they left T&M last night 5 hours after Aztecs. Last time SDSU had the late game before Championship game, they went down.

Is Ruben OK?

In the past we have gotten daily reports from spring football
And full coverage of the MWC basketball tourney.
I pay for someone to cover those because of the times I can't go myself.
Very disappointed with almost complete lack of any current information
Definitely not getting my money's worth in recent weeks.
Anyone know what the problem is?

18Spring Ball week 2

CB Darren Hall is now on the first team ahead of Kyree Woods.

LB Andrew Aleki is now a first team OLB ahead of Troy Cassidy.

Kyahva Tezino played middle linebacker today while Ronley Lakalaka played the other outside spot. The staff is trying to add flexibilty with the linebacker unit so both Tezino and Lakalaka will be rotating a lot this spring.

These decisions were based off the scrimmage performances on Saturday.

SDSU vs Fresno St

Aztecs opened as a 3.5 point favorite. Will be a tough game. They match up well against the Aztecs or at least have in the recent past.

Because of who SDSU is playing, they have dropped to an 18% chance of winning the tournament. Clearly the top half of the bracket is tougher than the bottom half. So in my opinion, Boise St is the favorite to win it all. Nevada I believe has the best top 5 players but it's too hard to play 3 nights in a row with a deep bench let alone only having 7 players available. Here's hoping that UNLV runs runs runs assuming they don't fall flat Wednesday night.

Adam Seiko

Before the basketball season ends (hopefully in a few weeks) I'm hoping one of you who attends practice can provide some insights on Adam Seiko. I wasn't particularly impressed with his HS video and am maybe unfairly thinking of him as a D'Erryl kind of player. Thick, strong body; defensive specialist; but not quick or creative enough to excel at point at this level.

What are you seeing in practice?

Basketball Recruit Update

The Aztecs were excited to receive commitments from Joel and Nathan Mensah, and Jordan Campbell. It was considered a top 10 2018 mid-major recruiting class.

Joel has had a decent year for a mediocre J Serra team in Orange County, averaging 16 pts and 9 boards per game. Listed at 6'11", 200 lbs, but looks more like 6'9" to me.

Nathan has had an up and down season on a loaded Findlay Prep team. He's averaging 8 pts, 7 rebounds and a couple blocks. He started strong and is finishing strong, averaging 15 pts, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks over the last 4 games. Listed at 6'9", 207 lbs.

Jordan Campbell has disappeared. He had a monster senior year at Jamaal's HS in Adelanto. He graduated, and decided to play for Scale Prep in Chino "to mature his body and mind". He's not listed on the Scale Prep roster, and is not in the only video I could find. Does anybody know what happened to him?

Baseball Ranked #25

Aztecs Baseball 8-3 (2-0 in MWC) broke into national rankings today. This roster is deep with a ton of very good new pitchers and tremendous seasoned veterans that can hit a ton.

http://www.goaztecs.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/030518aab.html

Equally good news is the fact that MWC baseball has done much better this year OOC. UNLV is 11-1 and swept Fresneck over the weekend. But a lot like their basketball team, they have a good offense but pitching is suspect.

The MWC's official board hasn't updated any baseball scores or standings since Thursday.

SDSU-Nevada

Nevada did us a double favor tonight, they just beat UNLV eliminating them out of the top 5, the win also ensures Nevada will STILL be a top 25 team when they come to Viejas. I expect a packed house for Senior Night with a top 25 team coming in and we will be playing to secure that top 5 spot. The Show better Show up. If we can get this win we'll be one of the most dangerous and hottest teams going into the MWC Tournament. I wouldn't want to play us right now. GO AZTECS!

San Diego State among schools well represented at NFL Combine

We know Alabama, USC, Miami and Florida State are going to be well-represented at the NFL Combine every year, but the ability of some programs to produce draft-worthy talent this year may surprise. Today we run down 10 programs well represented in Indianapolis that might surprise the casual observer.

SAN DIEGO STATE - 5 PLAYERS

Recruiting Rankings: 2013 (No. 78), 2014 (No. 72), 2015 (No. 74)

Breakdown: The Aztecs have had quite a run of producing quality running backs in their history and this year’s draft class is highlighted by former three-star running back Rashaad Penny. One of the most productive backs in all of college football last season, Penny rushed for more than 2,000 yards while finishing fifth in Heisman Trophy balloting. But he’s not alone in Indianapolis, with his fullback Nick Bawden also invited, as well as former two-star prospect Kameron Kelly, who converted from quarterback to safety in college.

You can see the rest of the schools here.
