John Baron II was the punter throughout spring and did OK but SDSU feels confident they will have a starting punting specialist in the fall.

It's becoming more and more certain that the staff will sign an experienced punter with one year of eligibility remaining. There's also a very good chance that said punter is Australian, and that Bobby Hauck or another assistant coach may have to fly across the globe to visit him in the next couple of weeks.

Word is that he is eligible and won't need summer school, but he'll need to get accepted into an SDSU grad program.

If that falls through - which is unlikely unless another school tries to pick him up at the last second - SDSU will then monitor upcoming summer kicking camps and be on the lookout for an unsigned high school senior punter without current offers. It's not an ideal situation for a true freshman to handle punts, though, especially when field position plays such a big role in the team's strategy. But that's the backup plan.
