-Asked Rocky if there will be an ongoing QB competition this week in practice at all. Long said they plan to have a starter before practicing this week.
"We’ll have a starter and if everything is going fine, we won’t use the backup. And if things aren’t going fine, we’ll probably send in our backup to see if we can change our fortunes."
The QB situation is very much still up in the air by the sounds of it.
-Long said he doesn't know if subbing in Christian Chapman at the time that they did changed the momentum of the game or had any effect on the outcome.
-Long said he thought nine of the 13 or so penalties called on SDSU were "very legitimate."
-On how to fix the penalties moving forward, Long said there's nothing you can do in practice other than explain to the players how bad those dumb penalties are. Long sees no use in bringing in officials to practice at this time of year since there is little full speed/contact stuff and mostly scout team stuff.
-Long said SDSU's run blocking improved but costly penalties kept Pumphrey from reaching well over 100 yards and also took away two or three scoring drives.
-There were no significant injuries learned following the game. Trainers giving players treatment today.
-On the opening play of the second half, Long said Kazee's assignment was to sit on the bubble, which he did correctly, and Kameron Kelly was supposed to cover the deep route, which Kelly was late on. Kelly will remain the starter.
-Christian Heyward traveled with the team but didn't play. They planed to use him 10-12 reps if the game was close, but as the game went on they decided to let him rest another week.
