Tayler Hawkins is one of the remaining recruits SDSU really likes and landing him would be a great way to end the class.
From what I'm hearing, he really enjoyed his visit and being hosted by Damontae Kazee. Not to mention his teammate Trenton Thompson is committed to the Aztecs currently. The coaching staff is making a very strong run at him since he has made it clear he wants to attend a winning program. He's down to Colorado, Washington State and SDSU from my understanding. I get the sense that it's currently a Wazzu/Aztec battle (ex: winning programs - at least this past season *cough* WSU) that will come down to the finish line.
Bobby Hauck and Tony White did an in home visit with Hawkins last night (I believe after they stopped by Jasmin's house to give him his NSD papers) and I wouldn't be surprised if the coaches stop by again this week.
What's weird about this situation is that Thompson, again, Hawkins' teammate and close friend, is a soft commit and he is considering taking one last official visit this weekend (to Wyoming or maybe a surprise school I don't know about). Normally, SDSU looks down upon commits taking visits to other programs (not to mention he just visited this past weekend) but in Thompson's case, having Hawkins as a friend/teammate in a way forces SDSU to sort of let it slide because why would you want to screw up a currently positive situation by telling a kid something he doesn't want to hear who happens to have a teammate that the staff also really likes? So don't be too alarmed if Thompson takes a visit somewhere, but it will be interesting to see how things play out. A home run would be for SDSU to land Hawkins and keep Thompson on board obviously. But if Hawkins chooses WSU and Thompson visits elsewhere, the coaching staff will be looking at a potential 0/2 scenario on DBs just days from signing day on kids it really really likes. It puts SDSU in a tough spot but that's how things work sometimes in recruiting.
DB Keoni Stallworth is also right in the fold and there's a good chance he ends up an Aztec depending on the situation I described above. Hold on to your hats...
