Rocky Long said the coaching staff met with Max last week and presented the idea of returning for a sixth-year. They made sure to present it in a way where he wouldn't lose focus on the season.
A decision hasn't been made but "it's moving in a positive direction that way." Long thinks Smith will try and do it.
Long said there's no rush to apply for a medical waiver since Smith will be enrolled at SDSU in the spring. He also said he doesn't know if there's any cons to coming back.
I personally can't think of any cons that will keep Smith from coming back. I also don't see any cons to at least applying for the waiver right now and deciding later on if he should or shouldn't stay for a sixth-year. Does the application bind him to the school should he change his mind later? I doubt that.
