When I asked Rocky if Maxwell Smith had applied for a medical hardship waiver for a sixth year prior to the season, he basically said Maxwell never brought it up and nobody on the staff discussed it.

"We haven't even discussed that and I haven't even thought about it," Long said at that time. "He's a fifth year guy. You'd have to apply for a sixth year and I don't know if he's done enough to get it, or if he even wants to do it. We haven't talked to him about it."

I asked him about it today, and while he said Maxwell still hasn't brought up the possibility, he certainly seemed a little more thoughtful of the idea. It will just depend on Maxwell.

"I guess he could apply for a sixth year if he wanted to," Long said. "I don't think we've asked him yet. I have no idea if he wants to or not. Six years is a long time unless you think you're an NFL guy and that's your last chance to make an impression for the NFL. But six years is a long time to play football in college."

Sounds like the option is now there if Maxwell wants it.

Side note: Rocky joked that Maxwell is the oldest player on the team but would be average age on Utah State's team.
