No scrimmage today.
LOTS of focus on offensive sets. LOTS of coaching. Movement off screens was crisper than I've seen.
Stats were kept on turnovers and offensive rebounds during the two live 5-on-5 sessions. When you're not a great shooting team, those are the elements of offense that you can control. You could see noticeable player reactions to turnovers.
Particular attention was paid to counteracting the physical inside play that they'll see in Ft. Collins. The scout team never switched on defense, and they were told to guard HARD.
Parker was excused from the last hour because it was clear his knee was bothering him. Ben Perez was next to him on the bench, but I didn't hear an explanation. He was a full participant earlier.
Shrigley and Gill-Caesar did not practice, though the trainer was attending to Matt. Hoetzel and Narain were full participants throughout. I felt both were having trouble with the physical stuff inside. Z was abusing Max when they were one-on-one.
This team endures a harsher coaching approach than we've generally scene from our staff. Most of it relates to the coaches preaching results over potential. Though there is plenty of praise given, this is not a team that seems to respond to the pat on the back approach.
Flowing more of the offense through Winston on the low post is giving him more confidence, and he is a much more verbal leader now.
It's great to see how the coaches share the teaching responsibility. With the focus on the offense today, Mark Fisher took a bigger role.
A free throw shooting drill wrapped the practice. Winston's team was down by a point and a half and Coach told him that if he made the next throw without touching net, he'd tie the drill. Swish. Lots of smiles. A good way to end practice.
